kelp washed ashore | woven tapestry
15" x 20" slit weave tapestry
This final tapestry builds upon a previous slit weave sample inspired by the dynamic forms and movement of washed up kelp. This piece uses intricate tapestry and slit weave to explore the texture and tension created by interlocking strands of kelp. Two separate pieces were woven, thoughtfully arranged, then cut and sewn back together, delicately intertwined in a particular fashion that aims to recreate the splayed and tangled nature of seaweed on the shore.
